James H. Carter papers, 1853-1861.

The collection consists of correspondence, receipts, promissory notes and legal documents. One document concerns the sale of a lot in Laurel Grove Cemetery (Savannah, Georgia) to James H. Carter. Most of the correspondence is from various law firms who are collecting debts for Carter. A letter of December 26, 1860 states that Carter and his family are leaving Savannah and moving to Texas.
